Actors Bill Phipps, Jack Kruschen, and Paul Birch's bid at interplanetary relations receives a decidedly warm reply.
On a side note: poor Jack Kruschen, whose later role in "The Apartment" (1960) would garner him an Oscar nomination, nevertheless, had the worst cinematic luck with Mars during the 1950’s!
Early 1953: An escaped convict, he helps commandeer a rocketship destined for the red planet, only to land up on Venus. "Abbott and Costello Go to Mars"
Later that same year: The Martians come to Earth, but as Salvatore, a reluctant member of the ad hoc welcoming party, he’s the one not to listen to his own sound advice. "War of the Worlds"
He finally makes it to Mars in 1959, and what happens? He’s digested whole along with his pet freeze gun, Cleo! "The Angry Red Planet"
